The Bottom Line: Boardroom battles

The Programme on BBC Radio 4 hosts a talk with CEOs of three UK companies from healthcare, publishing and merchant banking sectors that all heavily rely of venture capital (VC) investments (all three companies are not publicly listed). Following this programme is a good way to get head around the thinking and language use of the contemporary UK startup entrepreneurs: note the use of word ‘betting’ when evaluating new business models. Boardroom politics would involve many aspects, speakers draw attention to clashes of egoes, culture, pre-meeting preparations, presence of investors on the boards, use of data for making strategic decisions. Questions raised include ‘should employee representatives in UK sit on remuneration committees?’
